St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center employs the most up-to-date medical and arthroscopic treatments for sports injuries that sideline Boston athletes of all levels. We use new minimally invasive, biologic treatments to preserve joints and avoid the need for joint replacements at the Bone and Joint Center at St. Elizabeth’s and the Boston Sports Performance Center in Wellesley. When surgery is recommended, we use less-invasive arthroscopic surgery techniques to repair shoulder and knee injuries. The center also uses state-of-the-art reconstructive techniques to repair anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), cartilage and other knee injuries.
The medical team, led by Dr. Thomas Gill, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, specializes in ACL reconstruction, articular cartilage and meniscus repair, and shoulder surgery, including rotator cuff and labral repairs.
In addition to performing orthopedicsurgical procedures, St. Elizabeth’s Sports Medicine Program offersnon-surgical therapy and approaches for sports injuries, illnesses, and chronic overuse problems, such as PRP injections, viscosupplementation, and other biologic treatments for arthritis. Operating as part of the integrated Bone and Joint Center and the Boston Sports Performance Center, the Sports Medicine Program doctors and support staff care for adults, adolescents and children in the Boston area. The goal of the program is to provide new and established therapies to help restore patients to their best quality of life, and avoid the need for joint replacements.
Our rehabilitation protocols are shared for information purposes only. Rehabilitation should be done under the direction of a licensed therapist and upon prescription referral by a physician for protocols that are specific to a patient’s condition and individual needs.
